The Thoughts
It is very difficult to put a finger on something when you wake up after a bad dream, isn't it? Very often one doesn't remember the dream but just few images of the fading memories of that realistic horrible dream. The whole day would then pass with something dark in the mind, stuck, like the lingering taste of some badly flavoured food. At the end of the day, if something bad has had happened we crib and curse it to that bad start of the day and if nothing much then we pacify our heart by rubbishing the day's long irritating trail of thoughts as just baseless fear due to stupid heart's and mind's overthinking. It is then often followed by promises to oneself to not overthink like this again, only to break it the very next time it happens! Funny when you think it from outside...but true nonetheless!
